I. Discipline Introduction
Environmental Science and Engineering is a comprehensive and interdisciplinary discipline developed based on natural science, engineering science, and social science. It encompasses various aspects such as environmental pollution chemistry, environmental planning and management, water pollution control engineering, air pollution control engineering, solid waste treatment and resource utilization, soil pollution and ecological restoration, and environmental materials.
Our university obtained the authorization for a master's degree in environmental engineering in 2003 and for a master's degree in environmental science and engineering as a first-level discipline in 2010. Currently, we have 57 faculty members, including 14 professors and 19 associate professors. Among them, 51 hold doctoral degrees, and 14 have overseas experience. We also have 1 national model teacher, 1 member of the Teaching Guidance Committee for Environmental Engineering under the Ministry of Education, 1 talent from the "Thousand Talents" plan in Sichuan Province, 8 candidates for the academic and technical leaders in Sichuan Province, 1 "Three Educations" pacesetter, and 5 excellent young teachers with "One Specialty and Multiple Skills" in Chengdu. Over 30 faculty members hold professional qualification certificates (such as Environmental Impact Assessment Engineer, Clean Production Auditor, Safety Assessor, Environmental Supervision and Cost Engineer, etc.). The discipline boasts 1 key laboratory at the provincial university level, 2 provincial research platforms, and is equipped with more than 1,100 sets of research equipment worth nearly 30 million yuan.
Our discipline is positioned to integrate our university's research advantages in atmospheric and environmental protection with environmental pollution control, based on socio-economic development, current environmental protection needs, the characteristics of meteorological universities, the historical evolution of the discipline, and the academic backgrounds of our researchers. We aim to cultivate high-level talents with excellent research qualities who can promote the research and development of environmental issue governance technologies and applications, focusing on issues such as atmospheric environmental protection, water environmental protection, waste resource utilization, and environmental planning. We will further conduct scientific research around seven research directions, including air pollution and control, water pollution and treatment, atmospheric environment, waste treatment and resource utilization, environmental planning and management, environmental monitoring and evaluation, and carbon neutrality technologies, forming an engineering discipline with atmospheric environmental protection as its specialty.
II. Training Objectives
(1) To cultivate high-level specialized talents with solid ideological and political qualities, correct worldviews, outlooks on life and values, strong social responsibility, adherence to research integrity and academic ethics, and comprehensive development in morality, intelligence, physique, and aesthetics.
(2) To ensure students master the solid theoretical foundations and systematic professional knowledge of environmental science and engineering, stay informed about domestic and international research trends in the field, grasp research methods and advanced experimental techniques related to their research directions, and apply theory to practice.
(3) To develop students' information retrieval skills, academic communication abilities, and autonomous learning capabilities, as well as their scientific research abilities, enabling them to objectively analyze problems and solve engineering practice issues using scientific methods. Students should possess the ability to engage in scientific research, teaching, or specialized technical work.
(4) To equip students with good language expression and writing skills, foreign language proficiency, and computer skills, enabling them to read and understand foreign literature in their discipline and related fields, and proficiently use relevant software for data analysis and thesis writing.
