Duration of Study:The standard academic term is 4 years. According to the relevant regulations on student academic management, the study period is 6 years.

Advantages and Features of the Major:Based on the concept of sustainable development, the Environmental Science major focuses on cultivating applied senior specialized talents with strong capabilities in environmental monitoring, environmental impact assessment, environmental planning, environmental management, environmental consulting, and ecological environmental protection to meet social needs. This major is a first-class major in Sichuan Province, with a faculty-student ratio of 12:1 and a well-structured teaching team. It relies on the provincial key (nurturing) discipline of Environmental Science and the first-level discipline master's degree authorization point in Environmental Science and Engineering, and possesses excellent instrumental equipment conditions for conducting intra-curricular and extra-curricular practical teaching activities. This major has certain characteristics in environmental monitoring and evaluation based on atmospheric and remote sensing technologies, as well as environmental planning and management based on information technology.

II. Training Objectives

This major aims to cultivate senior compound technical talents in Environmental Science with good moral character and humanistic qualities, a solid foundation in environmental natural science, environmental technology science, and environmental humanities and social science theories, technologies, and knowledge, as well as certain innovative and engineering practical abilities. These talents should be able to engage in ecological environmental protection, environmental monitoring, environmental impact assessment, environmental planning and management, and environmental pollution prevention and control in government, enterprises, education, scientific research, and other industries. Within 5 years after graduation, they should achieve the following objectives in society and their professional fields:

Training Objective 1 - Basic Knowledge:Possess a solid foundation in natural sciences such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and geography, master the basic knowledge of environmental science and engineering and related fields, and be able to use professional knowledge to analyze and solve practical environmental problems.

Training Objective 2 - Professional Skills:Have certain practical experience in environmental science and engineering, be able to engage in pollution control and treatment, environmental monitoring and evaluation, environmental planning and management, ecological environmental protection, and other aspects of work, and meet the requirements of professional qualifications such as registered environmental impact assessment engineers, registered environmental protection engineers, and clean production auditors.

Training Objective 3 - Social Abilities:Have a healthy body and mind, possess teamwork spirit and strong communication and expression abilities, have an international perspective, innovative consciousness, and the concept of sustainable development, and be able to continuously improve their abilities through various channels to become the backbone of their positions.

Training Objective 4 - Professional Ethics:Have good professional ethics and correct social values, be able to abide by professional ethics and laws and regulations, and demonstrate high professional ethics and social responsibility in their work.

III. Graduation Requirements

1.Have a certain level of humanities and social science literacy and social responsibility, be able to abide by professional ethics in practical work related to ecological environment, and fulfill job responsibilities.

2.Possess the necessary basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, economics, management, and other disciplines, as well as professional knowledge in environmental science and engineering disciplines, and understand the frontier developments and trends of environmental science.

3.Have the ability to use the knowledge and theories of environmental science and engineering to solve complex environmental problems, reasonably understand the potential impact of solutions on society, health, safety, law, and culture, and comprehend the responsibilities that should be undertaken.

4.Master the methods of literature retrieval and data inquiry, be able to efficiently obtain relevant information using modern information technology, and be able to use professional basic software such as CAD to solve practical problems.

5.Have systematic engineering practice learning experiences, possess the ability to design and implement environmental science and engineering experiments, and be able to scientifically analyze experimental results.

6.Have an awareness of innovation, be able to comprehensively consider social, economic, and other factors, and use the theories and technical means of environmental science and engineering for process and system design.

7.Understand the production, design, research and development of this major's direction, understand policies and laws and regulations related to environmental protection and sustainable development, and be able to correctly understand the impact of environmental engineering on the objective world and society.

8.Have certain organizational management and expression abilities, be able to play a full role in the team, and actively take on the roles of team members and leaders.

9.Be able to effectively communicate and exchange with industry peers and the public on environmental-related issues, including writing reports, designing schemes, presenting speeches, clearly expressing oneself, and providing reasonable feedback.

10.Be able to identify, communicate, and analyze complex environmental problems based on the principles and techniques of environmental science, as well as literature research, to obtain effective conclusions.

11.Have the awareness of autonomous and lifelong learning, and the ability to continuously learn and adapt to social development.

12.Have an international perspective and the ability to conduct cross-cultural exchanges and cooperation.
